This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, a week in which NAMI seeks to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental illnesses. As dietitians, we frequently speak about food and nutrition as it relates to one’s physical health. But, my experience working at a mental healthcare treatment center has taught me quite a bit about how food affects mental health. So, in honor of World Mental Health Day, I thought I’d share a bit of the lessons I’ve learned about food and mental health.
